Bangladesh Independence Day History
In the 1970 Pakistan general election, Pakistan’s largest political party, the Awami League chief Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was won a clear majority. The Pakistani ruling military government, which chief was Yahiya Khan is not willing to hand over power to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Negotiations had started, but Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s reputation was such that the Pakistani never trusted him. When all indications gradually opened crystal clear, the promises which are given by the Pakistani ruling party were not followed strictly, and then the whole country of Bangla language-speaking peoples of East Pakistan dived into the spirit and vibe of a real struggle. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman gave his famous speech on 7 March 1971, at the Racecourse field where he called for a non-cooperation movement with the Pakistani government.

The independence of Bangladesh was declared by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman during the early hours of 26 March 1971. Then the people of Bangladesh took part in this war to be distinguishing an independent nation from Pakistan. The guerilla strikes officially begin. Bangladesh gained independence through a nine-month bloody war. Nearly three million people are martyred in the liberation war of Bangladesh. In the liberation war, The Mukti Bahini, with the support of the military of India defeated the Pakistani Army ending the war and we gained victory on 16 December 1971.
Declaration of Bangladesh Independence
On 26th March 1971, a message from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has declared the independence of Bangladesh. He ordered that the message be made available to EPR shortly after midnight. This message was duly broadcast through EPR radio. Because the communication system was directed on VHF and frequency crystal controlled, not many people did listen to the declaration.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman said:
“This may be my last message, from today Bangladesh is independent. I call upon the people of Bangladesh wherever you might be and with whatever you have, to resist the army of occupation to the last. Your fight must go on until the last soldier of the Pakistan occupation army is expelled from the soil of Bangladesh and final victory is achieved”.
Speech for independence day
Later this message was broadcast by Major Ziaur Rahman on behalf of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The declaration of this message was widely published in the international press in late March 1971.
Major Ziaur Rahman said:
“I Major Zia, Provisional Commander-in-Chief of the Bangladesh Liberation Army, hereby proclaim, on behalf of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the independence of Bangladesh.
I also declare, we have already framed a sovereign, legal Government under Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, which pledges to function as per law and the constitution. The new democratic Government is committed to a policy of non-alignment in international relations. It will seek friendship with all nations and strive for international peace. I appeal to all governments to mobilize public opinion in their respective countries against the brutal genocide in Bangladesh. The Government under Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is sovereign (and) legal Government of Bangladesh and is entitled to recognition from all democratic nations of the world”.

Every year Independence Day of Bangladesh is celebrated on 26th March. It is a national holiday in Bangladesh. Bangladesh Liberation War

The Bangladesh Liberation War also called Muktijuddho in Bangla began after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was declared the independence of Bangladesh. The Bangladesh Liberation War was an armed conflict and revolution sparked by the rise of the Bengali nationalist and self-determination movement in what was then East Pakistan genocide during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. It resulted in the People’s Republic of Bangladesh gaining independence over West Pakistan. The war began after the Pakistani military junta based in West Pakistan launched Operation Searchlight against the people of East Pakistan on the night of 25 March 1971. They killed many Bengali Patriot civilians, intelligentsia, religious minorities, students, and armed personnel. The junta annulled the results of the 1970 elections and they arrested the supreme leader of Bangladesh Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. After nine months-long bloody war, finally, the war ended on 16 December 1971 after the Pakistani Military surrendered. A new country of Bangladesh was born on the earth.
