About Pohela Falgun
The first day of Bengali month Falgun is called Pohela Falgun. It is the eleventh month in the Bangla calendar and the first month of the Spring season. Pohela Falgun is the best month of all the six seasons that brings back warm daylight, blossoms flowers and moving of winged animals like birds.

Pohela Falgun usually falls on the 14th of February according to the Gregorian calendar. In winter nature has lost its original beauty, and nature became very dry. Falgun month comes to remove the dryness of winter and bring freshness in nature. After the dryness of winter, In Falgun month new leaves are seen on trees, and new flowers are on the trees. The next year in 1992, students of Dhaka University organized a small program at the Dhaka University faculty, when they put abir on each other’s foreheads in a symbol of friendship, and in 1993 they had Holi festival, a festival of colors, which marks the arrival of spring.

The day of P0hela Falgun, Bakultola of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University was the center point of the festival.
There are many young men and women gathered in the morning and celebrated the day by reciting poems, singing songs and dancing. The entire Dhaka University campus and the Ekeushy Boi Mela premises become the best places to hang out with family members, friends, and beloved ones.
Pohela Falgun also celebrated all over Bangladesh and every public and a private university is celebrated this day’s occasion very colorfully. They arranged different programs throughout the day. Also, different social organizations are taken different activities and arranged the cultural program in Pohela Falgun. In other countries where the Bengali community lives, they also celebrated this day full of colors.
