Ratargul Swamp Forest Sylhet – Ratargul Swamp Forest is the one and only freshwater swamp forest in Bangladesh located in Gowain River, Fatehpur Union, Gowainghat, Sylhet. It is located about 26 kilometers from Sylhet district town. The ratargul swamp forest area of 3,325.61 acres and 504 acres of forest was declared in 1973 as Wildlife Sanctuary. There is only a few freshwater swamp forest in the world and Ratargul Swamp Forest is one of them.

This evergreen forest is located on the banks of Gowain River and connects it with the Chengir Canal. In this forest, the most commonly grown Koroch tree whose scientific name is Millettia pinnata. During the rainy season, this forest is submerged under 20-30 feet of water. At that time, the tourists come to see the drowning plants.

Ratargul Swamp Forest
Ratargul is a natural forest in Sylhet, local forest department here planted several trees including Koroch, Hijal, and Varun, and apart from this, there are 25 species of water-soluble plants, including Jalili, Arjun, Kadam. Rataragul is known as the ‘Sundarbans of Sylhet’. Many tourists called the Ratargul Swamp Forest as Amazon of Bangladesh.

How to go to Ratargul Swamp Forest
If you want to visit Ratargul Swamp Forest then you have to come first to Sylhet. You can come to Sylhet from Dhaka or Chittagong by road, train, or airline.
By Bus from Dhaka to Sylhet
Green Line, Saudi Arabia, S. Alam, Shyamoli, Ena, and those are left from Fakirapul, Gabtali, Sayedabad, Mohakhali, and Abdullapur bus terminals of Dhaka and reaches Sylhet. Their rent is usually between TK 800 and 1100 for AC buses and Non AC Buses will be able to rent 400 to 450 taka per person.

How to go from Sylhet to Ratargul Swamp Forest
The Ratargul can be reached in a very short time by the inner roads of Khadim tea gardens and Khadimnagar National Park beside Sylhet city. On this route, go to Sringi Bridge with a CNG auto-rickshaw or jeep. If you want to go to Sringi Bridge from Amberkhana Point of Sylhet with local CNG. CNG rent will be 100 taka per person. You can find small boats to enter the ratargul swamp forest from Sringi Bridge. The rent of a boat is 400 to 800 taka and 4 to 6 people can go on this boat.
